The Journey : Our Story
Simmod Systems was founded by Ron Sim, CSC—an award-winning cinematographer whose career began behind the camera, not behind a desk.
For years, Ron worked internationally as a Director of Photography, filming commercials and productions around the world for major brands and creative campaigns. His life was built around storytelling through images, but like many working cinematographers, he constantly faced the same frustration: the tools available often forced compromise.
Vintage lenses had character but lacked practical cinema functionality. Modern systems offered precision but often lost the soul of the image. Reliable solutions were either unavailable or inaccessible.
Instead of accepting that limitation, Ron started building his own.
What began as a personal pursuit—modifying lenses, creating custom lens caps, and engineering practical solutions for his own work—quickly became something others needed too. Fellow filmmakers and professionals were not just buying products; they were asking for answers.
That pursuit became Simmod Lens.
Built from firsthand production experience, Simmod Lens grew from custom lens modifications into a recognized name in cinema lens engineering—developing follow focus systems, precision adapters, locking mount solutions, conversion kits, rear filter systems, and patented innovations trusted by filmmakers worldwide.
What started unexpectedly as a way to support his family and help pay for his wife’s medical school tuition became a business far larger than originally imagined.
But the vision was never just about selling parts.
It was about solving problems through engineering.
As the company grew, so did the realization that the same philosophy applied far beyond lenses. Every product, every division, and every solution followed the same cycle: identify the problem, engineer the answer, refine it until performance becomes repeatable.
That philosophy became Simmod Systems.
